Terasen Gas ENERGY STARŪ Qualified Heating System Upgrade

Terasen Gas customers located in the Lower Mainland and BC Interior can obtain a $250 rebate when they install an ENERGY STAR qualified natural gas furnace or boiler, and an additional $50 rebate if it is operated by a variable speed motor.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Mortgage Loan Insurance Refund

CMHC offers a 10% premium refund on its mortgage loan insurance premiums, as well as extended amortization to a maximum of 35 years (subject to lender availability), to individuals who use CMHC-insured financing to purchase an energy efficient home, purchase a home and make energy-saving renovations, or renovate their existing home to make it more energy efficient. The refund is a one-time payment.

Exemption for Material and Equipment Used to Conserve Energy (preventing heat loss from buildings)

Certain materials used to prevent heat loss from buildings are exempt from provincial sales tax (Social Service Tax). Tax-exempt items include insulation materials, storm windows, storm doors, weather stripping, caulking material, window insulating systems, separate multi-glazed windows and doors (including garage doors) containing multi-glazed windows.

Fortis PowerSense Home Improvements Program

If your home is located in the FortisBC service territory, and is electrically heated then you may be eligible for PowerSense rebates based on the number of kWh saved per year.

Under the FortisBC home improvement program (HIP) customers with electric heat who purchase and install ENERGY STAR windows are eligible for a rebate of $0.50 per sqft of window.

VanCity Bright Ideas Loan

The VanCity credit union offers its members a prime rate loan to finance energy efficient home renovations recommended by an EnerGuide for Houses subsidized evaluation. This loan supplements the related EnerGuide for Houses Retrofit Grant. The renovations must achieve at least a five-point improvement in the EnerGuide for Houses rating.
